This fascinating book on the McNair family is a followup supplement of the 1923 publication. This book gives a focus on Andrew McNair, one of the ringers of the Liberty Bell. The doorkeepers of the Assembly of Pennsylvania were the official ringers of the Liberty Bell. Enclosed is a list of these men as given in the Independence Hall Bulletin and in the Pennsylvania Archives. Andrew McNair is listed from October 16, 1758-February 18, 1777. The earliest record on Andrew McNair was that of his marriage to Mary Jennings, in November, 1746, in Penna. The Scottish family history dates early. It is also shown that the name Macnayr has been found on documents as early as 1390 and that a coat of arms was given by King Robert Bruce to a chieftan of the McNairs at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314...
