Genealogy of the Mercer-Garnett Family of Essex County, Virginia and of Lancashire, England. James Mercer Garnett was a member of the Virginia Legislature of 1799-1800, 1824-25, and member of the Convention of 1829-30, called to amend the State Constitution. He also served as a member of the grand jury that indicted Aaron Burr. There are many branches of the Garnett family, this focuses on the branch that intermarried with the Mercers of Stafford County, VA., namely the descendants of Muscoe Garnett who married Grace Fenton Mercer in July 1767.
