by D D Mazelin

The Mazelins in America, 100 Years 1840-1940, Descendants of Peter and Theresa (Ethene) Mazelin. They immigrated with their young son, Frank, from France to America in 1840. After 66 days of sailing from April to July they entered the New York Harbor. The next course of their trip to reach their destination was by ox-cart, which they purchased. Traveling west to Ohio, overwintering and continuing on to Indiana was quite an undertaking. In France, before their journey to America, infant Frank Mazelin was baptized in the Catholic church. He married Barbara Schwartz whose family came to America after the Mazelins. Her family had belonged to the Amish Mennonites, which Frank joined. Later they left the Old Order Amish to join the Amish Christian Church.
