It is a companion book to the author's previously written books on her family. It examines the migration to New Netherland, the seventeenth century Dutch Repblic and why settlers came to America, commerce, trade and businesses.

Part 1 Van Alstyne/Van Alstine Family Progenitors, Jan Martense and Dirckje Harmense 1623; Part 2 The Martin Janse Line, 1655; Part 3 The Lambert Janse Line 1652; Part 4 Reverend Nicholas Van Alstine 1814 and Louisa Van Alstyne 1813.

This book is filled with numerous color illustrations and a wealth of information concerning the family. The Van Alstynes have lived in what would become the United States since the early 1600s. The original Van Alstyne in America, Jan Martense, came to the Dutch Colony of New Amsterdam as an indentured servant. After paying off his indenture, he returned to the Netherlands to gather his small family and return for good. He brought his wife, Dierkje Hermanse, and his sons.
